1325 + 1327 Constitution Avenue NE, Washington, DC

A bold house in a traditional neighborhood; we pushed the envelope on the design and architecture in both of these homes. The result was spectacular.

Light

The most dramatic element of the homes is a 12 foot by 12 foot custom designed and built skylight.

“We wanted to do something different than just the typical rowhouse diagram of a single loaded corridor down the length of the house. All floors are visually connected, where light becomes the focus and the organizing element of the house; it’s the center of circulation, spatial programming and social and celebratory activities.” – Chuong Cao, Architect

Open

Working to integrate the indoor and outdoor space, we installed a California-style accordion door opening onto the garden, which creates a unique connection between the living room and terrace.

Detail

Throughout the house are features that required extraordinary attention to the detail to bring to fruition — extra love and care were required to painstakingly install the guardrail spiraling through the center of the home. The guardrail was handmade on-site by Ditto Residential master carpenters and hung using a hidden dowel system, which allowed for seamless integration.
